Anavar (or simply “var”) is the common name for the steroid Oxandrolone, which in its clinical setting is primarily used to promote muscle growth in patients with muscle wasting disorders. Due to its unique properties Anavar is a highly desired oral steroid for bodybuilders and athletes, although its relatively high cost often limits its use for those with slightly deeper pockets.
First developed in the 1960s, Anavar was the trademarked name for the drug Oxandrolone and is still known by that name amongst PED (performance enhancing drug) users. Due to its popularity, Anavar is produced by a number of underground labs in various dosed tablets, typically between 10mg - 50mg. So, in short, what makes Anavar such a prized choice amongst the various oral steroids available? It’s non-aromatising and has very low androgenic activity making side effects much less likely whilst its moderate anabolic properties delivers slow but steady, quality gains.
Dosing your Anavar cycle
Anavar is an oral steroid produced by a number of reputable underground labs. Depending on the lab you choose, tablets are typically dosed anywhere between 10mg to 50mg. The half-life for Anavar is around 12 hours, so ideally we would aim to take two or three evenly spaced doses throughout the day to produce stable concentrations.
A typical Anavar cycle would be 50-80mg per day for six to eight weeks. Those new to PEDs would usually opt for the lower end, with 50mg per day often proving a fruitful dose for producing decent results whilst minimising side effects for those trying their first cycle. Higher doses - say 80mg per day – will usually spur greater muscle gain, but it may be wise to save such a higher dose for subsequent cycles when the user is more experienced and has a better understanding of their tolerance and proneness to any side effects.
Consuming the tablets with a meal is often a good idea to minimise stomach upsets, so for someone on a 50mg cycle it may be wise to take one 25mg dose at breakfast and another 25mg during the evening meal.
Anavar results and side effects
As Anavar does not aromatise we have a steroid which will typically not produce the sort of water retention that is common with other oral steroids which do convert to oestrogen, such as Dianabol. As such, other oestrogen related side effects are also unlikely to be an issue, such as Gynecomastia (the formation of breast tissue, which often begins with sore, itchy or puffy looking nipples).
Anavar also rates low when it comes to androgenic activity. This is welcomed news for those who may be prone to androgenic side effects such as oily skin, acne, baldness and aggressiveness.
